December 29

Good morning everyone. I have made it through the second night; just waking up frequently to get rid of all of the fluids they are giving me. I don't have a problem getting back to sleep though. As last time, the chemo is making me get the hiccups which don't feel so good and are extremely frustrating! I have found two methods that seem to work together to get rid of them. Drinking water upside down seems to get rid of them and if I don't talk too much they don't come back. I also have the tremors and the doctor just came in and checked them out. He didn't seem too worried because they are not as bad as last time. The medication has also caused my face to swell a good amount, I guess I am just getting ready for the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, but not to worry, I am still handsome. {That is what Tiff said anyway:)} It made my morning though to wake up and have all of your comments read to me. Thank you for that.

The Doctor just came in and informed us that the chemo should finish up late tomorrow night and then the rest of the stuff should finish Monday and I should get to go home Monday night. Yay!

Last night I had five different lines of medication being fed into me through the picc line. My infusion pole is getting heavier and heavier so when I go on my walks I am getting a bit more exercise in. I am looking forward to Carl coming up here today to go on a walk with me. Maybe we can get in a couple of miles today as well. We ended up making 132 laps around the floor yesterday, but I think I should get bonus points for pushing the infusion pole with me.

I did get a chance to watch the Beavers play, maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't so coherent, Car. But I did have Barry, my wife, and Tiff here to provide me with the excitement I needed. However, a bowl win is a bowl win. Next year they will be talking about Riley, who has won four bowl games, they wont be saying how pretty they are, but that he has won them.

Thanks again for all of the comments. They really do brighten my day.

Ron,
I'm sure you are still handsome, yet not as handsome as when you are dressed like a woman!
I've even considered walking with you because Linda Y. has had me walk with her a few times this year (and she has really conditioned me). Just don't bring a dog and then have a search party for its droppings in the pitch dark of the morning with a flashlight!
Glad to hear you are going to come home on Monday and love to always hear your upbeat attitude.
Been thinking about you and your family a lot.
Happy Belated Christmas!

Way to go,Ron. I am so proud of you and your strength getting through this, as is everyone who knows you. You are truly an inspiration!
So I watched the Beavs last night. Wish I could have found the number for the stadium.....Canfield was awful. I think he needs a sports shrink to help him with the yips he gets when in a pressure situation. Could you believe his "pass" into the end zone? What was he thinking. Maybe he's not sure what color the Beavers' uniforms are. Do you think? Colorblind?
Like you say, a bowl win is a bowl win, even if it's ugly. Bernard and Rodgers saved the day. Excited about watching the latter in the years to come.
Hope you get your "yips" under control also.
Thinking of you as always with love, hope, and healing.

Way to go RC! I'm already thinking of a trip into Mink Lake basin next summer. With those trolling skills, we're sure to find Curtis T. Matthew is doing great and is looking forward to your great trolling tutaledge.

Ron,

Chris is right, Canfield did look awful but that's better than I thought he would look (in a shoulder sling). It tires me out to think of 142 laps around anything.

It was so great to spend Christmas with all of the family. I miss the time away from you guys when I am in Arizona. You've raised a great family!

This time next year we will be planning our next trip up to Duffy Lake. I'm thinking I'll trade in 20 of the 12 inchers for a handful of 20" monsters!

Hello Ron ... this is Tom's daughter Britt. I've been following the blog for a few weeks and thought it was time to say hello.

I attended the Beaver game last night with the younger Tom and you're right ... it was not the prettiest game played. We were very relieved to see the Beavs come out on top.

Stay strong! Your determination and sense of humor, not to mention your family, are among your best assets. :)

Happy New Year,
Britt

I was wondering if an icecream cone to the forehead would help with the hiccups? Or maybe a jar of peanut butter, Skippy perhaps!I hope your day went well and that you get a good night sleep tonight. Sweet dreams.

Hi Ron,

We just returned from San Francisco and the BEAVS WIN. As you've all said, not pretty but a win is a win. Canfield's Dad told us, he's still having quite a time with that throwing arm and didn't really expect him to play much, but they had to play him when Lyle got hurt (strained elbow, and sprained ankle is what we've been told). My boy, Joey LaRocque, had a fairly good game considering he's babying that leg with the hamstring pull. He's a really tough kid..........I hope he makes it to the "league."

Glad to hear this second round of chemo is going ok. Keep up the walking, and build that strength up! We're thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers.
