Tonight...

Well, what a fake out this morning was....
This morning was FABULOUS. Dad was in great spirits, went walking with Car, Tiff & Andy were here, Uncle B came, lots of chatting, joking, and then....

Everyone left at the same time & the emotions of chemo started kicking in. Dad started getting nauseous & frustrated at the enormity of the situation.

Uncle B (thank you so very much as we know your shoulder is not your friend right now & is making life a little difficult) brought dad & mom some pizza & stayed to visit a little longer. Tina also came bearing cookies (does she know dad well or what) & walking shoes. Unfortunately dad wasn't in the spirits for a walk (will definitely take a rain check on that one). She stayed & visited a bit.

The nurses finally gave dad a pill to help ease the emotions & gave him a shot to reduce the nausea.

He's now sleeping soundly...yes, the snoring is in full force...it's great. We are hoping that it lasts all night!

Earlier in the day, in dad-like fashion...he wanted a shower. The nurse informed him that it would postpone his departure time by a half an hour (all the chemo bags would have to be disconnected the entire time)...guess what dad decided...yep, no shower. Let's get out of this joint as QUICKLY as possible!

Here's hoping that the next 24 hour set of chemo bags goes quickly & smoothly (on the emotions & belly). We know he's anxious to be writing on his own blog, although, secretly I think he likes having his own personal scribes.

Okay Daddy! Today sucked, I'm so sorry. I'm also sorry that I missed you awake, but am glad that you were catching some good zzzzs. I will definitely be back up tomorrow. Maybe you'll let me kick your butt at cribbage? I know you'd let me win, because that's just what you do (hint hint). :)

I hope you are able to sleep well, soundly, & dream good dreams. I'll go home & have a bowl of peppermint ice cream for you. We'll go on a walk tomorrow! The grandpuppies want to know when they get to go on a walk with you... :)

I love you & am so proud of you. I can't say it enough. You are such an inspiration to all of us. You've always been an incredible father, mentor, & role model. As the years go by...those thoughts only strengthen in my mind! I love you daddoo!

So sorry about the downturn that occured later in the afternoon - I was just bragging to Tyler and his wife and later Sue, Molly and Megan about how well it seemed to be going for you, Ron! I'm glad that you were able to get in those 44 laps with me before yur nap today, buddy! Hopefully, tomorrow will be a much better day for you.

Love ya, bud!

RC: If this message duplicates it is because I could not follow the directions on posting my first draft. Anyway...

I hope this finds you well rested and feeling better. I am encouraged by the snoring that T was reporting because I know that works for me.

We just got back from Bruce and Becky's wedding. It was very nice and very obvious that they are very much in love and anxious to start their lives together. It was sort of a Carey family reunion. Bruce's children Angela and Andy played major roles in the wedding. Donna and her son Jeff were there as well. I had not seen her Jeff in a long time. Nice to reconnect with him. Donna checks this blog every day. TC, Liz and Tyler were there as were Steve and Kaz. DC and Helen traveled with us. Bruce really appreciated DC being there.

We had a nice visit with Betty. She gave us your update beyond this blog. She never changes in her support for you and your recovery.

Our Shannon would have been at the wedding as well but she was busy making money for the Nordstrom Company. Here is a shameless plug, stop by and see her in the Salem Men's Clothing section for exceptional service! Our Jeff is preparing for a weekend road trip to the Lake of the Woods for some Winter fun.

We are all checking this blog daily so keep up the reports and your energy allows. We also recognize and appreciate the family support that you are getting. Keep it up kids! CC and BC, you keep it up too but neither of you are kids!

Anxious for you to get home!

Dear Ron,

Here's hoping that you wake up Sunday morning feeling wonderful. And that the feeling lasts well into the night...and longer. You certainly deserve it.

Way to go, Beavers. Although I watched in Albany with Betsy and Sarah, I did send Tommy and Britt to the stadium. Also, service manager Troy took his whole family down, so Albany was well represented.

So many people have written in, I've had a hard time finding any space, and a better time just logging in and reading their comments. If it is true we are judged by the number of friends we make, you are a very wealthy man.

Once again, I'm counting on you posting your comments about how great Sunday was. All of us in blog-land wish nothing but the best for you, and your wonderful family.

Take care,
Tom

Ron, Just got back from cruizin. I can't believe that decadence could be that enjoyable. We had a blast! We have stories and pictures to share. Hope to get a walk in with you this week. You are awesome, man!! If there is a Chemo Hall of Fame anywhere, there should be room for you. And your incredible family! Always thinking of you, Harold

Ronnie Mike, it's so good to be able to write some words to you at this time. I talked to Tory this afternoon and she told me of this blog and of her excitement that you are coming home tomorrow. She said she was counting down the seconds! We have had two gals at the DH with cancer and subsequent treatment, one had a kidney removed and is back to work after three months. The other is my graphic designer who has cells around her lower spine, kidney, and lower lung. She's a smoker, but battling it with treatments and even will come back to work next week! You are by far the very best person to battle and win your war with this crap! Your family is so strong and loving, a direct reflection of your example of friendship and love to everyone you come in contact with, except if they were a Duck! Hang in there my life-long friend, pretend this is a Prill hike ten times, and know there is fish at the destination! Love you Ron! Brian
