On the positive side, dad did get a little sleep last night. The nurses brought mom a cot so she was able to catch a little zzzzs as well. Unfortunately, dad can't sleep through the entire night because they are pumping him full of fluids so he has to get up to use the restroom frequently.
The lunch today was some kind of vegetarian quiche (I hope those of you that know my dad well are getting as good of a chuckle as I did out of that). Needless to say, mom went downstairs & bought dad an American dip & a double chocolate Haggen Daz bar (sp?). He said the ice cream was good, but the rest is blah again. For dinner he had a burger, broccoli, ice cream, some Dove chocolate candies & some dark chocolate toffee. Tom Cutsforth....what a WONDERFUL surprise to find chocolates on mom & dad's front porch this afternoon! As soon as I walked into the hospital room & showed them the box, dad asked if he could have some of Tom's candy (& don't we all wish we could have a diet full of steaks & candy).
Dad was able to enjoy a few games of Password with mom, Tiff, & Michael this evening. After dinner he started to get a little nauseous so they gave him some meds to help alleviate the discomfort. He's hoping for another night of restfulness.
Thanks for everyone checking in! Dad & mom both appreciate it. It gives them a little break in the day (watching tv all day can get a little old). We'll let you know how it goes tomorrow...hopefully the days will stay fairly uneventful this time w/the decrease in the Iphosphomide (nurse Dave is very optimistic about it)! Love to you all!

Dear Careys,
I love reading these entries. You have a way of bringing me right to the room there, a mark of good writing. I am not sure what an American dip is. I know I've met a few! Assume cheese or sour cream dip? Well, it's 11pm and I hope you are resting well Ron. I'm off to the sleeping porch and when the furnace kicks off in this old house it feels like those winter nights in our college bunks!
Thanks again for keeping us in touch. Means a lot.
Love Doug
Hi Ron and family, glad to hear you are eating broccoli(rabbit food),the more of that in this world that you eat,the less chance I will have to eat it.Darn!!! I thought the Beavers had it last night, when they closed to within 23with a few minutes to play my hopes were high for our first Pac 10 win.I wish it was still the Pac 8,0-10 sounds alot worse than 0-8.lets just say it was another morale victory, whatever that means. After all,we are playing good teams here and not expected to win. Thanks to your wonderful family again for keeping us updated.
Hey, Ron and Kath:
Just had to check in and see what the latest was before heading off to teach a class. People around Sumpter were pretty encouraged to hear of the good news yesterday that it appears that the chemo is doing it's job. I can't imagine you getting into vegetable quiche under the worst of circumstances (remember how we would go out of our way to avoid those "chick lunches" with all the salads and quiches at school?!!) Suffice it to say that the only thing harder on your digestive system than quiche would be watching the Beavs attempt to lose by less than 10 points! I'm so glad that something tastes good to you, though buddy...when you get home we might have to start going out to steak lunches occasionally - whatever it takes to support my dear friend!
Blessings, Carl
Hi Mom and Dad. I am sitting here on the couch trying to keep the water down, I have now what seems to be a temperature because I am sweating in my house...we keep the heat like you two, so you know it is cold in here! I love you both so much! Andy and I are thinking about you, as are the rest of the Brogans. Thanks for the update T! An American sandwich...for others who are unsure, this is another version of a French Dip sandwich, just politically correct since we are in America. :) I love you T, thanks for the clarification! Thanks for all of the comments everyone! I love you mom and dad!
