Saturday, January 26
Hello all! Each period of time after each chemo has found me in a different state each time. Currently I have been watching the Duck and Beaver games respectfully. Thought the Ducks were going to get it in OT. Way to go in the first half, Beavs!! It has been enjoyable so far. Looks like the attendance is a bit better there tonight at least. As for my health, I am still fighting the hiccups and trying to keep the weight on. Less and less is sounding good to me. I am forcing food down, but sure wish things tasted better. If I could get these hiccups to go away, I would be feeling much better. Today Tory, Tiff, Michael, and Amber spent most of the day with Kath and me. Unfortunately again the Oregon weather did not smile on us, which cut off my outdoor walks. My wife did make homemade pizza for us. Afterwards we played several games of Password, Outburst, and Guestures. Love being able to laugh. How would you respond to a clue of "straw------"? That was for you, Michael! About a half hour after the fam left, my brother, BC, showed up with his friend Robin and watched all the Oregon game with us. Great time of telling stories and visiting. After BC and Robin had left, I decided to send this message off. I really appreciate hearing what you and your families are doing and what is going on in your lives. This helps give me a better focus. I enjoy hearing about the Beavers and Ducks. I enjoy little stories about what is going on in your lives. Thanks again for reading the blog and getting the information.

Hello, Ron and Kathey:
What great news to hear from you, Ron and to learn that the hiccups are somewhat under control and you can relax at home. What a wonderfully, supportive family you have . . . I'd love to join you for a round of games sometime, but I fear I would be severely outclassed. We're experiencing the wet, cold, and at times icy winter weather in Issaquah as well, so we've focused this weekend on Australian Open tennis finals. Any tennis fans in your family? It's great hearing from you, Ron. Write again when you feel up to it. I think about you everyday. Yours, Tina
Unlike the weather, the Ducks, the Beavs, and food, it sounds like you're turning things around a little. Glad to see you feeling better with less hiccups. And it sounds like you and the family had a great time together yesterday. Let me know when you're ready for a walk. B.
Well buddy, I'm getting just a small glimpse of what you're going through. After my leg surgery on the 16th, I didn't move off the bed for 4 days. The only time I wasn't in pain was when I was asleep. My leg is finally feeling much better, but I'm going stir crazy. As you know, I gotta be moving around and doing stuff. Being unable to help Celeste with the chores and get around is driving me bonkers.
I did enjoy watching Blazing Saddles the other day - I thought of some of our good talks and get togethers. "Mongo just a pawn in the game of life". I miss you bud and praying and expecting you will beat this.
You've done well dealing with all the crap, pain, hiccups, and it all. I'm proud of you. You're way tougher than me.
I hope you have a good day tomorrow!
Ron,
I am so glad you are home with your family! One more round of chemo and you are done. That is great news! You are doing a fantastic job along with your wonderful support system! Here's hoping you have some restful nights ahead!
I do want to tell you that my daughter, Kiana, is playing basketball. Unlike her mother, she has legs that go on for days! Ask Betty about it! She is on an all girls team playing against all boys. The girls are on a 2 game winning streak and have beaten undefeated boys teams the last 2 games! It has been very exciting for the girls because they don't win too many! The funniest thing today was the dad from the other team that kept saying how bad it would be to get beat by an all girls team! :>)
Take care and keep that fighting spirit!
My love to all the Careys,
Dar
I actually was at the Duck Game Yesterday. Had a good time although the crowd was really quiet. (The UCLA players/coach filed a complaint after Thursdays game because the students were a little vulgar." Not sure what happened with the jump ball at the start of overtime and and why we didn't fould with about a minute left in overtime.
Ron, you will be happy to know that I now own a University of Oregon Baseball shirt. I know how much you like our baseball program.
Glad to hear that you are home and feeling a little better.
Great to see a message from you, Ron! Let me know when you are up for a walk - you know that I'll make time for you when you are! I was in Corvallis last night and it was fun to see so many people in the stands for a change. It was pretty exciting in the first half as you know, but the better team flexed their muscle in the second half and it was over in a hurry.
Hope to see you soon!
Carl
Ron & Kathy,
Ron my friend, havn't forgotten you I have been keeping up with your progress on the blog! Well, first my input on the Beavs, As one old coach to another, Yeah! It was way past due for a change! It's called recruitment, at this level! Go out and find some D-1 players! They will make you a much better coach! John didn't do the job recruiting, he had his chance! Again i might consider going to see a Beaver game!
Work wise??? I'm back to "Just" supervising students, WOU hired Greg Bradstreet to fill in until you can return, if you choose to do so? Seems like a nice guy! Carolyn and I are looking forward to heading for Hawaii in Feb. for an 11 day cruise with 3 other couples, friends we grew up with? With this snow I can't wait! In March we plan on heading to PS for a couple of weeks??? So I will have to hussle to get all my observations in quickly? Anyway, buddy, You are never far from our prayers for continued improvement and I have all the confidence in the world that with prayer and a family like yours you will beat this awful thing! Love you! Glen C.
Hi Ron and Kathy,
Sandy and I drove over to Salem to shop Cosco on Saturday-she, too, enjoys shopping at Costco. I'm not crazy about shopping anywhere. She bought what she always buys, artichoke hearts, salmon (farmed raised that tastes great but most of my friends won't eat it), beef jerky-that's it, always the same. I bought a bottle of red wine, a big one.
It was pouring down rain and the parking lot was packed. When we opened the trunk to put stuff in, there was a monster mouse nest inside. How the little bastard got in there is anybody's guess. Sandy went balistic. Mice are a constant problem here. Anyway, didn't see any Cary's at Costco on Saturday.
The weather is getting to me too this Winter. I will pick up seedlings this Thursday for planting. I hate planting when it's a mix of snow and rain-I'm to old for that. I don't have many to plant this year, 1500 hemlocks that I'll plant on a steep slope where I've had some blowdown problems the past two years. The hemlocks do well in areas that do not have full sunlight and when they grow under the large Doug Fir, it makes a beautiful forest (25 years from now). Forestry is so cool-to be able to visualize what something will look like for future generations to use and enjoy.
Thinking of you guys,
Jim, Sandy, and Elaine
Ron, Hope today offered you some relief from those nasty hiccups. They sound 100 times worse than annoying. Get a walk in today? Hope I am still on the future walkee list. Eugene was a sheet of ice this AM until 10 or 11 AM. I can't believe some coworkers who went down this small hill near EWEB today. Lots of 180's and 360's. Yesterday a bunch of us neighbors set up lawn chairs at the end of our dead end street and watched cars trying to go up or down Willamette Street. Twenty five per cent should have stayed home (Volvos and Suburus rule!). We held up signs made on the computer - 10, 9.8, 8.5, or 4 depending on their performance. As the weather deteriorated, I felt guilty and ended up being a flagger for a couple hours. I felt like I was TV material, but no luck. There goes my 15 seconds of POTENTIAL fame. Karen and I think about you a lot and want you to beat this thing. Hopes and prayers, Harold
