February 15

Last two days have been beautiful, weather wise. Have been able to log several miles. Put in 6.5 miles walking Friday thanks to my wife, Barry and Carl. Today, I put in 2.5 miles in the morning with my wife and 4.5 miles in the afternoon with my daughter Tiffany (and of course her dog Bailey). Taste buds appear to be coming back. Feeling pretty strong on the walks, no longer feeling that exhausted. Will be watching to see when the hair decides it wants to come back. Finally, yesterday at Costco my wife and I were sampling, as we do very well at Costco when we came across a seafood gumbo dish that was very spicy and I could really taste. So we bought some for the evening meal which I finished, went back to Costco to get more and they no longer have them. I, out of anyone should know, that if you find something you like at Costco you should buy lots of it because you know it wont be there the next time you go. Just to show how my tastebuds are going, had three tacos for lunch with 5 packets of hot sauce per taco. I am trying to jump start these tastebuds. Have set several future walks starting Sunday through next week with various individuals. Everything is up in the air until tests on Tuesday and Wednesday, then we will know where we are. But I am feeling good and looking good, Tiff thinks so anyway :). Love hearing the responses on the blog. Thanks to everybody! enjoyed seeing my youngest son this week and my eldest daughter and I look forward to seeing my eldest son tomorrow. It is fun having Tiff and our grandpuppy spend the night with us tonight. It was also great to see everyone else I had the pleasure of visiting with this week. Thanks again!

Hello, Ron: It's great to hear you so upbeat, mobile, and in creative when it comes to stimulating dormant taste buds. Next time we see eachother, I'll bring tobasco sauce instead of cookies (or halepeno infused banana bread . . .). I'll check the blog regularly and continue praying for positive test results next week. If you're feeling up to it and if your full walking agenda should have any openings, I'd love to attempt keeping up next week. Best from all of us, Tina

Ron,

Great to hear about your walks, taste bud activity, and that good ole Carey attitude. Look forward to more blog info.

Ron, Did I read that right? You ate tacos? Mexican food? Remember, we still have that Mexican restaurant down the street. Glad to hear those taste buds are registering. Your positiveness, after all that chemo is so admirable. Hang in there. Slug Harold

Dear Ron,

You, in using five packets of hot sauce per taco in an attempt to jump-start your taste buds, is like me, driving over again to Corvallis (today) to cheer the Beavers on to a victory in Pac-10 basketball.

Pray that we both are successful in our pursuits, although I know you deserve your quest to succeed first.

Nice to have you back on the keyboard. I'll try to see you in Salem in the future.

Thanks for being so positive...

Way to go, Ron. Eat, eat, eat (chant similar to slug, slug, slug). Here's hoping you get some positive news next week. Keep blogging, eating, and walking. Mike

Hey Ron,
Just got back from cross country skiing up at Mount Hood. The snow was terrible. Icy the whole way, and it was really hard to ski on the downhills. Reminded me of our first trip up to Warner Mountain. It made me remember how hard it was to ski in at midnight in the ice, and how much easier it was after a bucket of margaritas and many beers.

Glad the Chemo is done. Hope everything goes well with your appointments this week.

Glad you are getting back to exercising- good for the body and mind! You being at Costco recently explains the lack of snacks available! Keep it up.

We (all the boys/wives and our kids) celebrated DC's 83rd birthday today. Nice day all around with nice weather and great food. Imagine 83 candles on the cake and all of them lit. This took a while and by the time #83 fired up, #1 was about melted down. I am still picking the wax out of my teeth. The fact that it did not trigger the smoke detector is a bit alarming.

Mom and dad are always anxious for an update on your progress and we are all hoping for an encouraging result from your tests this week.

Keep writing. We are encouraged by your reports. We don't post all the time but check in everyday.

Live Strong!
