Three more trips to Portland!! To celebrate we are going to stay in Portland Tuesday night and have dinner with Tiff and Andy. The biggest change this week was the doctor's appointment on Monday. He gave me the okay to start running. My wife's reply was, "oh no, now I have to start back." So Monday we ran for six minutes, Tuesday for fifteen minutes, Wednesday twenty minutes, Thursday twenty-five minutes, Friday thirty-one minutes, and Saturday we ran for thirty-three minutes with Tory. It feels good to actually sweat again, by choice. It isn't helping me sleep at all though. I will be glad when Friday is over because it is the last day I have to put the ointment on my back and lay on the couch for hours. The doctor still can't believe that I have not been burnt from the radiation,. In fact, he made me lift up my shirt so he could see for himself. I know I am not burning because of my wife's expertise on rubbing lotion on my back and the fact that I am staying still. We had lunch with Michael and Amber on Tuesday to celebrate his birthday. Aaron came over Thursday to watch TV and have pizza. Barry stopped by Friday, which we appreciated, but it is not a habit of mine to visit with people while I am laying naked on the couch with the ointment on, so Kath and he talked outside. Yesterday we spent the morning with Tory and we ran into Corky, Cathy and Kristin at Great Harvest. Then later in the day we met Reed and Kelly at Costco...there's a shocker. It is nice running into people when we are already out and about because once I am home I am unable to entertain visitors while I am laid up on the couch with the ointment on. Bailey (our grandpup), Tiff and Andy came down for homemade pizza today. I am still unable to get much sleep. The acupuncture doctor said on Thursday we should discontinue doing it because it was not helping. Both the doctor and I were disappointed that it didn't work.
Thanks for all of the comments, it is a joy to see them all.

Ron and Kathy, What a TEAM!! We will all count those last days with you. What you have gone through is an incredible journey that none of us have a clue. We look forward to seeing you and hopefully getting in a run with you. Remember, your first entry fee is on me. Harold and Karen
NICE! I'm so happy to hear that you are running and only 3 sessions to go! "You've gone far pilgrim"! I'm also glad to hear you're getting out - hitting Great Harvest, Costco ... Really good to hear Ronald!
Celeste, Matthew, and I hit Kelly's Saturday. We recieved a $50 coupon and a coupon for free light bulbs. While there, we hit all three stores for free Otis cookies, coffee and many homemade samples in the kitchen department including steak and a large sample of stir fry.
We didn't see anything to use the $50 coupon for so I picked up a delux poker set with case for exactly $49.99. They also had a 5" portable AC/DC TV which wll be useless when digital goes into effect. I gave the poker set to my dad - he was pleased, but taken aback that I wouldn't want to keep such a freebee for myself.
We drove into the Costco parking lot planning on going in, but there were cars backed up in both directions so we didn't park. It was about 1pm, I don't think you were there yet. If I would have noticed your car, we would've went in!
Matthew is doing well. He is wearing 6 month clothes at 4 months and is healthy, but a little chunky just like his double-digit dad. I could have sworn he looked at me and said Da-Da today. Probably nothing, but it's cool to hear him making new sounds.
Hi Guys,
I wrote you a poem. I don't know if your know it but I am not teaching. I've taken a leave of absence to spend more time with my husband and other family members. My "job" is now a writer. My hsuband who I love very much is keeping me:)So here goes:
To a great couple Kathy and Ron
In your latest challenge you bravely forge on
You go together like sugar and spice
Bread and Butter, salt and pepper,
all things nice
Wonderful children,parents, teachers, and friends
You've found great happiness, a love that never ends
May your path together, guided by God
Continue to bring joy, good times with the fam, even the grand dog
Hope you are getting the Sunshine that we are here in Vancouver BC!! Yesterday there was a 10 K Run here and 59,000 people ran/walked. It is the biggest sporting event in Canada. Eric and I ran last year but we had to go to Victoria to pack up his youngest son from his dorm room.So we ran there instead and then walked around the Butchart Gardens for several hours. Glad to hear you guys are back running.
Take care, Sabra
Ron!
40 dunks in Dodie's bread pudding for me for not checking this site more often! It was quiet for so long. I am so glad to know that you are coming to the end of your treatments. Hopefully soon, a nicer radiation from the sun will warm ya up after the long winter you and Kathy have so bravely weathered.
It will be nice to come up on a bright warm spring day and do a walk with ya. I'll keep in touch on when's a good time. Good attitude on your house selling.
Sending you a big hug and congratulations on all the hard work you've been through. I am in awe.
Love and cheers,
Doug
Hey, Buddy! Just two more sessions of radiation (and only one by the time you read this today!) I will refrain from any comments about how good Kath is at putting lotion on you, but I am REALLY happy that you haven't had any burning of the skin - another real answer to prayer for sure!
Have a great time with Tiff and Andy (and Bailey) tonight up there, and good luck with your final treatment. I look forward to touching bases again soon. I won't be able to be much help in the running department, but that bike trip is sounding like a really good deal in June (something about the SNOW on Saturday just didn't make me think of bike trips though!).
You continue to amaze me with your positive outlook, and it's obvious what a HUGE role that has played in your progress. You're awesome!
Blessings!
Carl
Hi Ron,
Congratulations on the finish of your treatment. It's been a long and arduous journey and you've done it with grit and determination. We are so proud of what you've been able to do. You are truly one to be admired. Your family needs additional hugs and pats of their backs for all they've done to help you.
Lindell and Ernie
Is this the day? Is this the light at the end of a very long tunnel? I can't tell you how happy I am at this very moment. This has been your longest ultramarathon and you have tuffed it out. Way to to go, SLUG!! Harold and Karen
